Our aim is that the children will continue to have fun selecting the tasks that are appropriate to their interests and linked to their learning in school. It also allows parents to fit learning at home into different home routines, taking away the demands of homework being returned on time and a ‘Sunday night panic’!
The children will still be expected to complete some home learning tasks that support learning. In Year 6 home learning will continue to be an expectation for all children in preparation for the Community College where it is a non-negotiable.
Please use the home school/reading record to let us know how your child has got on with an activity. If you have any questions about our new approach to homework please feel free to come in and ask.
We believe that home learning not only reinforces classroom learning, it also helps children to develop skills and attitudes that they need for successful lifelong learning. It should support the development of independent learning skills, including the habits of enquiry and investigation, and it should help to foster the role of parents and carers as co-educators of their children. Certainly, we’ve had some great examples of learning completed so far.
We expect the children to complete at least one task each week. Children will have the opportunity to share their home learning on set days, with a view to sharing learning the children are particularly proud of.
