The Pebblebed Heath Federation Governing Body actively supports the management of the schools in the federation.
Our Governors represent the staff, the Local Authority, our local community and our parent body. Together they play a vital role in ensuring and supporting the success of the school.
Parent Governors are elected by and from amongst the parents and carers of the children on roll. Their role on the governing body is as a representative of the whole parent community;
Staff Governors are elected by and from amongst the staff.
Local Authority Governors are appointed by the Chief Executive of Devon County Council, usually in consultation with the school;
Community Governors are appointed by the other members of the Governing Body from the wider local community.
You do not need specialist skills to be a governor, however there are a number of qualities that contribute to governor effectiveness. These include:
- the desire to make a difference to the education of young people;
- the time to get involved;
- the ability to work in a team;
- a desire to work in the community;
- the ability to offer an external and objective view;
- a willingness to challenge assumptions;
- an understanding of and commitment to issues of confidentiality when necessary.
Being a School Governor should not incur costs.
In most instances, the first point of contact should be either your child’s class teacher or the Head of Learning. However, should you wish to contact a Governor, please contact them via the ‘Get in Touch’ portal on the front page of the website.
Please note that Governors are not able to enter into correspondence with regard to specific issues, these should be referred to the Executive Headteacher.
Further information about making queries, comments or complaints can be found in our complaints guidance for parents, available in our policies page.
