Holocaust Memorial Day

Year 6 spent sometime of Friday 27th January learning about Holocaust Memorial Day.
First of all we found out what the word 'Holocaust' means.
We read about how Jewish people were stripped of their rights by the Nazis and how they were persecuted for their beliefs.
Pupils learned about how Jewish men, women and children were sent to camps where millions were killed and they discussed the ideas of justice, liberty and tolerance that now form part of our British Values.
They learned about Anne Frank and 'Kitty', her diary, and how she sort comfort in writing in her diary as she hid from the Nazis in an annexe in a room in Holland for two years.
We felt it was important that this day is remembered each year so the Holocaust is never forgotten.
