Djembe Drums

Year 6 at Littleham are learning to play the djembe drums. These originated in West Africa and would have had the hide of an animal such as a zebra as the skin of the drum. We have learned to play the bass, tone and slap on djembes of different sizes. It is quite tricky but good fun. There are many experts online who have been providing us with lessons each week and we are able to follow some rhythms. The class next door just love Tuesday afternoons! At the start of a lesson we listen to a variety of music to understand more about pitch, tempo, rhythm and dynamics. We have listen to Danse Macabre, In the Hall of the Mountain King, The Carnival of the Animals as well as a bit of Motown.
